The valley is a hidden gem of the Lake District; lesser known but well loved by many visitors. There are many varied and interesting places to see, including the Memorial Bridge and stepping stones near the pub, and the beautiful Seathwaite Tarn, where you can fly fish with a permit available from the inn. Guide books and suggested walk leaflets are also available from the inn. OS maps are available from Ulpha Post Office, 3 miles down the valley.
The nearest town is Broughton-in-Furness, where you will find places to eat and drink, a Post Office, petrol station, bakery and Tysons butcher and grocer. The tourist information centre also has lots of local information about places of interest and help for visitors to the area. Broughton is about 8 miles from the inn.
A little further afield are the towns of Millom, Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness, and shingle beaches can be found at Haverigg, Silecroft and Silloth on the west coast.
